rather than power, she is a slut for validation. diana believes herself to be a godsend saint, flawless and good, and thinks she is entitled to be treated as such. and everyone did treat her like that in the original story, especially helios and cael. I think the power of the crown princess and future empress was not what she was really after, but rather the status, the influence, it was just the cherry on an already perfect cake. but then hestia came, and also seemingly has a special power, that is a problem in and of itself, because it either means that hestia was also blessed by god (thus making diana less unique) or that her power did not come from god at all (which would come in conflict with her faith). the next problem is that diana provides a service while hestia provides information, hestia is more valuable in the long run, especially with the knowledge that their powers will disappear, when diana’s power disappears, that’s it, but theoretically hestia still has the time to predict events years in the future. that + the emperor’s health + cael + diana’s powers disappearing + international conflict + nobles, brought helios to a breaking point, he needs to account for diana losing her powers. this bothers her because she refuses to accept that she is losing her powers at all (because that would mean that she is abandoned by god), in her eyes, helios is taking hestia’s side, he is doubting her, refusing to see her as a perfect goddess on earth. so she turns to the other person who used to see her as such to look for validation, for someone that can tell her that this is not happening and hestia is lying: cael
at her core, diana goes through a crisis of faith. she was “chosen by god” and had this belief validated by everyone else around her, if she loses her powers than god abandoned her, and then everyone else will abandon her too. diana is not evil or even necessarily a bad person, she has capacity for it, but that is not who she really is. she is vane and proud and maybe even a bit narcissistic, at this point the desperation of clinging to her religious and social identity makes her act out
btw, if the situation was reversed (cael ended up with diana, not helios), cael would have done exactly the same. regardless of how much in love with her he was, there is nothing in the text that implying that in the scenario where cael would be faced with hard evidence that diana will lose her abilities cael would deny this or not account for it for the greater good of the country
